Founder Story

Padre Surf Club was founded in 2025 by artist and casual longboard surfer Rowan Westwood. Since childhood, Westwood has spent summers and holidays along the Coastal Bend. She developed a deep connection with the island and bay areas, and as an adult, she chose to make this region her home. “I’ve always felt at home here,” Westwood says. “This beach—it’s really unlike anywhere else.”
Over the years, Westwood spent time on beaches along the California coast, the East Coast, and abroad, experiencing a variety of coastlines. Yet no matter where she went, she always returned to the Coastal Bend—the place that inspired her to start Padre Surf Club.
When asked why she chose to make this island her home, Westwood says:
“ The Coastal Bend has a unique magic you won’t find anywhere else. It’s not about being the best surfer; it’s about the joy, the community, and the way the waves make life feel alive.”
She laughs when admitting she’s not the most skilled surfer out there, but it’s never been about that.
“I paddle out, I catch what I can, and I have a blast. That’s what surfing is supposed to feel like.”
Our Vibe
Padre Surf Club is a reflection of the Coastal Bend lifestyle. Every design, every product, every interaction embodies the laid-back, creative, and authentic spirit of this region. Westwood wanted to create a space where the energy of the coast, the culture, and the art all come together. “We make things we love and hope other people love them too,” she says. “It’s simple, really.”
Local Culture & Community
The Coastal Bend isn’t just a backdrop—it’s the heartbeat of Padre Surf Club. Westwood draws inspiration from the people, music, art, and surf lifestyle that make this place special.
“There’s something about the community here that’s hard to describe. It’s welcoming, it’s genuine, and it’s full of people who care about this coast as much as I do.”
Through collaborations, events, and storytelling, Padre Surf Club highlights the local culture and invites the world to experience it. Every piece of gear is a nod to the unique character of this stretch of Texas coastline. From the murals that color the town to the music that drifts from beachside campfires, the club aims to capture the spirit and soul of this vibrant coastal community.
Sustainability
Sustainability is more than a practice—it’s a responsibility. Padre Surf Club focuses on slow fashion, carefully selecting suppliers who prioritize quality and ethical practices. “We want our products to last and our footprint to stay small,” Westwood explains.
The team also gives back through beach cleanups and donations to organizations protecting marine life and coastal ecosystems. “The ocean gives us so much,” Westwood says. “It’s only right we help protect it, whether through volunteering or supporting charities. That’s how we honor the coast we love.”
Why We Exist
Padre Surf Club exists to capture the joy of surfing, the spirit of the Coastal Bend, and the creative energy that thrives here. “We make things for people who care about the ocean, about culture, and about having fun,” Westwood says. “We want others to feel the magic of the coast in their own way.”
Every piece of gear, every story we share, and every connection we make reflects a commitment to authenticity, fun, and respect—for the ocean, the community, and the culture that inspired it all. Padre Surf Club is our home, our lifestyle, and our invitation to ride the wave with us.
